IN THE LIFE OF A SUPPORT WORKER AT NSS...
"Another unexpected consequence of my career choice, is the new interest in hobbies I have discovered directly through working with my clients. Again, no two clients are the same! Over the last two years I have learnt new skills in gardening, motorbike racing, rock climbing… The list goes on, I even play pool now; and sometimes win!"
" I love my job and wouldn’t change it for the world. There is so much satisfaction from bringing someone’s mood from a 3/5 to a 5/5 in the space of only a few hours and genuinely having the opportunity in making a positive difference on their wellbeing. Would I recommend becoming a support worker? Absolutely! However, I would emphasise you’ve got to be a people person, this is a vocation, not a job and may not be for everybody"
"I know it’s the biggest cliché in the book, but let me start by saying no two days are the same in this line of work; so writing about the day in a life of a support worker is a challenge! Another cliché, possibly, this is no 9-5 office job. Of course there are clerical/administrative duties, as you might expect. However, working one to one with my clients and see them fulfil their goals more than compensates for the paperwork.

“Great work for fresh graduates
I worked here for a good while when I first graduated university. You learn about a lot of different types of therapies in the role and it is nice to be able to blend each type in sessions with your clients. The managers are fair and supportive when you need them and I overall had a positive experience of working here.”
